Drama Club

The Wabasha-Kellogg Drama Club is designed for students interested in learning more about theater. This includes learning stage terminology, working on acting skills, set building, and costumes/makeup design. Our club is made up of students that participate in any of the productions throughout the year.  The Drama Club does several activities. We have the Fall Play, One Act Play, and the Spring Musical.

There are also several opportunities to help with tech for all the productions.  If you are interested, talk to Mr. Medina. Help is always needed!

Past Productions

Wabasha-Kellogg High School’s fall play this year The Triangle Factory Fire Project is a historical drama about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York. The play covers the women’s strikes in 1909, the Triangle Factory fire in 1911, and the aftermath of the legal proceedings against the factory owners.

Set against the backdrop of the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of March 25, 1911, this impactful production explores the lives of the young immigrant workers whose struggles and dreams were forever altered by this devastating event. The play’s themes and the characters’ struggles led to significant changes in workplace safety conditions and raised awareness about labor reform and women’s rights. Many of these themes are still relevant today.

The script, written by David Piehler in collaboration with Scott Allan Evans, connects personal narratives and historical events. “We aim to honor the memories of those who perished in the fire while shining a light on the continuing struggles faced by workers today,” says Piehler. “This story is as relevant now as it was over a century ago.” (Piehler).  This production is produced with permission from Dramatist Play Service Inc.

The script was published in 2004 and has been performed by multiple colleges and high schools. Director Cris Medina chose this play for Wabasha-Kellogg students because it presents a challenging opportunity for them to portray realistic characters and depict an important historical event. Additionally, it provides opportunities for many students to learn aspects of theatre, including characterization and working as an ensemble. There are thirty-one 7th to 12th-grade students participating in this production.

Performances of the play will be this Friday, November 1st, and Saturday, November 2nd,  at 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 3rd at 2 p.m. at the Wabasha-Kellogg Performing Arts Center.  Tickets will sold at the door.  Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.  fall play, 24

The Addams Family musical is based on popular TV characters and mixes humor with darker themes that may unsettle young audiences. It includes spooky elements like ghosts and death-related jokes, which can be scary for children. The Addams family’s quirky antics might confuse younger viewers. Parents should consider these factors when deciding if the musical is suitable for their kids, as some scenes may be frightening or hard to understand.
