Academic Standards (K-12)

At Wabasha-Kellogg Public Schools, our curriculum is guided by the Minnesota K–12 Academic Standards, which outline what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These standards provide a strong foundation for teaching and learning, ensuring that all students—regardless of where they live in Minnesota—receive a high-quality education built on consistent, research-based expectations.

Each academic standard identifies the essential concepts and skills students are expected to learn in subject areas such as English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Within each standard are benchmarks that describe the specific knowledge and skills students should master by the end of a grade level or grade band. Together, these standards and benchmarks help shape the instruction, learning experiences, and assessments students engage with throughout the school year.

At W-K, our educators use these standards to create meaningful, engaging, and rigorous learning opportunities while meeting the unique needs and strengths of every student. The result is an educational experience that not only builds academic knowledge, but also prepares students to think critically, solve problems, collaborate with others, and succeed beyond high school.

Minnesota's academic standards are reviewed and updated on a regular, rotating schedule, with one subject area revised each year. This process ensures that instruction remains current, relevant, and aligned with the knowledge and skills students need for success in college, careers, and life.
