W-K Spelling Bee Participant William Sailer Advances in Regional Competition

On Thursday, January 12th, eight of Wabasha-Kellogg Elementary and Jr. High Top Spellers competed in the District Spelling  Bee.  After 27 rounds of competition, William Sailer (8th grader) was declared the District Champion.  Victoria Wallerich (6th Grader) was the second place finisher and Jaelyn James (8th grader) finished in third.  The next step is for William and Victoria to compete at the Regional Spelling Bee in Rochester on February 7th  at the Southeast Service Cooperative beginning at 1:00.  Jaelyn will go along to the competition as the first alternate.

William Sailer Advances to Final Round of Regional Spelling Bee
On Tuesday, February 8th, William Sailer (Grade 8) and Victoria Wallerich (Grade 6) competed at the PM Regional Spelling Bee at the Southeast Service Cooperative in Rochester, MN.  Both students proudly and aptly represented Wabasha-Kellogg well.  Victoria tied for eighteenth place.  William competed through 17 rounds.  He successfully spelled words such as colloquial, schnauzer, nebbish, Cossack, opossum, and Eiderdown.  He missed on the word détente.  The championship word for this competition was exacerbate.  William, with his second place finish, qualifies to compete on the 21st for the Regional Championship.  He will be one of 12 spellers (6 from AM round and 6 from PM round) to compete for this championship.  The champion will then compete at the Nationals in Washington DC.  William will be working hard to learn as many words as possible so he is prepared to compete on the 21st.
